Alberta Tour Championship + Rocky Mountain Disc Golf Challenge
Nicolas Sheran Park, Lethbridge
October 17-18

==
** Sept 30 note

8-person teams from all provinces and states in the region (Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Washington) having been invited to compete.

Alberta, BC, Montana are confirmed entrants. Saskatchewan and Oregon have also expressed interest. (Oregon is unlikely) The buzz has hit Idaho and Washington as well.

A precedent-setting event, the Rocky Mountain Disc Golf Challenge is intended to alternate yearly between Canada and the US at sites in southern Alberta, southeastern BC, and Montana.

Alberta Tour Points

Under the current system, your best 5 of the 7 events are being used to figure your points total, so if you've entered less than 5 events, just showing up guarantees that you'll gain points.

Open division 1st place clinched - Mark Dakiv has 6 straight wins, therefore he has 500 points (best 5 finishes = 5x100 points) Congratulations Mark!

Most of the other divisions are still very tight with close races in Masters, Grandmasters, and Advanced for the top few spots.

Women's division titles are also up for grabs, again depending on attendance.

The points system will be likely adjusted for next year to better reward place of finish.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 21, 2009

SUBJECT:  THE 2009 ALBERTA DISC GOLF TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP/ NORTHERN ROCKIES DISC GOLF CHALLENGE TO BE HELD IN THE BRIDGE CITY

LOCATION: NICHOLAS SHERAN PARK DISC GOLF COURSE, LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA

TIME:   8:00 AM SATURDAY OCT. 17 to 3:00 PM Sunday Oct. 18 2009

The 7th and final event on the 2009 Alberta Disc Golf Tour, the Alberta Disc Golf Tour Championship Disc Golf Tournament will be held on the third weekend of October at Nicholas Sheran Park in West Lethbridge.

This event will complete a 6 month cycle of disc golf tournaments that began at the Big Bear in late May at the Nordic Centre in Canmore, led us east to Park96 in Calgary for the Solstice Event, then north to Rundle Park in Edmonton for the River City Cup, into the Badlands near Drumheller for the Lost Egg at Wayne, west of Sundre into the foothills for the Alberta Open at Aspen Meadows and north again to the Peace Hills near Wetaskiwin for the Night Owl.

The 2009 Alberta Tour Championship will also serve as the umbrella event for the initial Northern Rockies Disc Golf Challenge.  States and provinces in our region are invited to send a team to this event.  Designated players on these teams will enter and play in the Tour Championship, but will earn points for their team to determine disc golf supremacy in the Northern Rockies.

The old 18 basket course at Nicholas Sheran Park (originally installed for the 2001 Alberta Senior’s Games) was re-designed for the 2007 Alberta Open and for that event played a very respectable 2795 meter Par 63 off the Blue tee boxes.

For the 2009 Alberta Tour Championship/Northern Rockies Disc Golf Challenge both Pro Open and Pro Masters will be invited to play a new set of Black tee boxes which measure an even more respectable 3050 meters.

Pro-Grandmasters and Pro-Women will play the Blue tees and all Amateur Divisions will play Whites.

Practice rounds and early registration Friday October 16 starting at 4:00PM.

Final registration and warm up from 8:00AM to 09:30AM Saturday October 17.

There will be two rounds of 18 baskets on Saturday and one round of 27 baskets on Sunday.  Awards and trophy presentations will follow at an estimated time of 4:00PM Sunday afternoon.

You can only hope, but you'll likely only enjoy them if you're shooting good scores from the blues. They're going to be lonnnnnnnnnggggggg holes if they weren't before...

Nice banner Al!

Anyone with Alberta or Canada flags, bring 'em for Disc Central, as team Montana is bringing their colors... and their beer, so bring lots of that too! ;-)

Note from CBJ:

"I've booked an executive room on the first floor of the Lodge for a reception on Friday at 6 PM for all players.

It has a wet bar and should do very nicely for a BYOB reception.

Players can check in at the hotel, go play at quick round at the course, then come back for the reception."

From Steve Pottier:

Could you pass on to anyone going to Lethbridge this weekend that if they stop at
The Corner Store on the junction of highway 23 and 24 and say they are disc golfers they can get 2 for 1 coffee. Its just before Vulcan.

...and there was much pain afterwards...

LOL If the blue tees are 'sadistic', how then do we describe the black tees?
